About The P&T Society

The Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Society is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit association dedicated to serving professionals concerned with the delivery of high-quality, outcomes-oriented pharmaceutical care in all healthcare environments. Founded in 1999, the organization has grown rapidly from multiple disciplines, including physicians, pharmacists, economists, and nurses.

OUR GOALS?

  • To foster interdisciplinary collaboration, information exchange, and the pursuit of continuous quality improvement in the P&T process, and of continuous quality improvement in the P&T process, and
  • To assist P&T committee members and stakeholders with their responsibilities
We provide support for the P&T process, through which our members:
  • Evaluate drugs and other therapeutic interventions
  • Establish and maintain formularies
  • Develop clinical pathways or treatment guidelines relating to formulary decisions
  • Evaluate the impact of formulary decisions on patients, professionals and institutions/organizations
  • Educate P&T process participants and their stakeholders

WHO WE ARE

Our active members have been a diverse group of health care professionals who participate in the P&T process at virtually every type of health care organization:
  • Integrated health systems
  • Hospitals
  • Managed care organizations
  • Pharmacy benefit managers
  • Federal and state government agencies
  • Long-term care facilities
  • Corporations
Approximately 60% of our members historically have participated on P&T committees. The remaining 40% are interested professionals who may be involved in policy-making, academia, consulting, and economics

WHAT WE OFFER

Our members are grappling with an increasingly complex P&T decision-making process that encompasses a broad spectrum of issues to consider - from economic impact models to benefit structure and patient adherence to therapy. The Society is available to help with resources and education on hospital and managed care formulary development and management, pharmacoeconomic and outcomes research, and government and legislative issues. Through Society-sponsored networking events, members from different types of organizations have the opportunity to share experiences and learn about successful strategies implemented by their colleagues.

We seek to provide a forum for the various stakeholders involved in the P&T process to create a P&T community that will foster the delivery of high quality, affordable and accessible pharmaceutical care.
