ABOUT P&T INITIATIVES

The Pharmacy & Therapeutics Society has undertaken a number of critical policy and implementation initiatives in the past. Our 2004-2005 initiative in the area of medication quality and safety, and reduction in medication errors, was undertaken at the invitation of the Institute of Medicine. When it was presented at our annual conference and subsequently published on our website (www.pandtsociety.org) it received the support of the Institute of Medicine, representing the clinical and scientific community, and the Leapfrog Group, representing the business and healthcare purchaser community. We continue initiatives related to evidence-based formulary implementation, review processes for high-cost drugs needed to treat small patient populations (especially when there may be both oral and injectable options requiring formulary review), and developing and disseminating case studies in formulary development and implementation related to new drugs and technologies where the process of implementing evidence-based review may be of particular interest to the P & T community.
