Strategic Objectives
The Board of Trustees has identified seven strategic objectives for the Society:
- Provide representation and advocacy for our members at the national level.
- Serve as a clearinghouse and resource center to encourage the exchange of information necessary for the success of our members’ efforts.
- Enhance the knowledge and expertise of our members through continuing education and training programs.
- Serve as a focal point for policy statements on issues of concern for members and the public.
- Develop practical tools that enhance or simplify the P&T committee process.
- Establish a forum for collaboration among all health care professionals and others involved in the P&T process.
- Promote continuous quality improvement in the P&T process.
The pharmacy and therapeutics “process” is dynamic. It can be defined as the process of:
- Evaluating drugs and other therapeutic modalities and their utilization
- Establishing and maintaining formularies
- Developing clinical pathways or treatment guidelines relating to formulary decisions
- Evaluating the clinical, economic and social impact of formulary decisions on patients, professionals and institutions/organizations
- Educating P&T process participants and their stakeholders
